Freedom Force International is a network of men and women from all parts of the world who are concerned over loss of personal liberty and expansion of government power. They are not mere complainers. In this respect, too many people are like cats. They are preoccupied with the details of their loss of security, freedom, and privacy, and they flutter like wing-clipped pigeons, complaining about this and that without knowing why these things are happening. By contrast, members of Freedom Force focus on the cause and work to eliminate it. The degeneration of civilization is not the result of blind forces of history operating beyond comprehension or control. It is planned and caused by a small but well defined group of people who believe this decline is necessary for what they fondly call The New World Order but which we recognize as high-tech feudalism in which mankind will be condemned to live in perpetual subservience to elitist rulers.

Replace the collectivists with people who have no personal agendas except to defend freedom. This will unleash the vast human potential for prosperity and happiness that can be realized only in the absence of government oppression. However, to reach that goal, it will be necessary for those who cherish freedom to do more than complain and far more than just casting a vote every few years. They must reach for power. Q: As the author of self-help books, with some 7 million readers, you must enjoy riding the high wave of success.
A: Success in terms of inner-development is measured by whether people change the way they think, and therefore the way they live. I would consider it a success if one reader in a hundred took the first step toward a higher level of being.

Q: What do you mean by a higher level of being?
A: To understand the higher, you must first understand the lower. You must see that life as you presently live it is a thinly disguised chamber of horrors. Anger, envy, loneliness, fear, guilt and the other demons that inhabit our minds must be exposed for what they really are … phony phantoms! Having emptied ourselves of wrong ideas about ourselves, there is room for Something Higher to enter.

Q: How does one attain this higher state?
A: Begin with self-honesty. Face your life as it actually is. See yourself as you really are. Without ruthless self-honesty, nothing can be done. With it, everything is possible.

Q: Isn’t this ruthless self-honesty a harsh remedy for a person who is suffering?
A: Not if it is used impersonally. We must study ourselves as a scientist studies a problem, objectively. Honest self-inquiry should not include self-blame or any kind of self-reference. This is what is known as non-identification. We are on the way to solving our problems when we learn to see them without calling them “I”.

Q: How about such commonplace human problems as anxiety, stress, depression, loneliness, sex, marital strife or addiction to drugs?
A: If we are the victims of bad experience, bad habits or bad treatment by others, it is not because something is wrong out there, but because something is out of order within us. I’m not condemning anyone. I am stating a fact. You can change jobs, or change mates, or change locations. But nothing will change, really, until you change yourself. I am talking about changing your actual nature. You can, through correct inner work, rise above all such problems, and they will trouble you no more. I promise you that.

Q: Can anyone learn to do this?
A: Each of us has the capacity to gain this new Understanding. But most of us are too comfortable in our suffering. We don’t know anything else. Zeitgeist, produced by Peter Joseph, was created as a nonprofit filmiac expression to inspire people to start looking at the world from a more critical perspective and to understand that very often things are not what the population at large think they are. Now, it’s important to point out that there is a tendency to simply disbelieve things that are counter to our understanding, without the necessary research performed.
For example, some information contained in Part 1 and Part 3, specifically, is not obtained by simple keyword searches on the Internet. You have to dig deeper. For instance, very often people who look up “Horus” or “The Federal Reserve” on the Internet draw their conclusions from very general or biased sources. Online encyclopedias or text book Encyclopedias often do not contain the information contained in Zeitgeist. Nearly fifty years ago an obscure scientist/writer turned the scientific world upside down by suggesting that major planetary catastrophes happened thousands of years ago. Immanuel Velikovsky shook the scientific community in a manner which threatened to exceed the planetary catastrophes he described in his first book, Worlds in Collision. To claim that this book upset a few of the scientific cognoscenti is at best understatement. The righteous — despite not being right — lined up at editors’ desks like chickens spotting blood on another chicken and begging for a chance to peck Velikovsky back into obscurity. Problem was, Velikovsky wasn’t bleeding. What was bleeding was the hearts of those scientists who felt that Velikovsky’s ideas would turn the scientific establishment upside down.
On January 3-5, 1997, the Kronia Foundation (under the sponsorship of the Truth Seeker Company, Inc.) brought together more than twenty scientists to explore Velikovsky’s thesis that events of extreme planetary violence happened on Earth as recently as 6,000 years ago. One of the main events of these catastrophes was a pole shift which wreaked havoc on this planet. Each lecturer came with his unique perspective about what these past planetary catastrophes were and what might have caused them. The Kronia Foundation is dedicated to providing a forum for anyone wanting to explore past planetary catastrophes. Most of the speakers felt that Immanuel Velikovsky was right on the mark.

Kronia Foundation brought together more than twenty scientists to explore Velikovsky’s thesis that events of extreme planetary violence happened on Earth as recently as 6,000 years ago.

However, these pompous scientists of the early 1950’s claimed that Velikovsky was just too far outside the scientific paradigm. Pole shifts and catastrophes outside of the Biblical flood just didn’t appear credible. Velikovsky claimed Venus was once a comet which came into Earth’s orbit and created extreme planetary violence with Earth. These events which wiped out much of the human population with floods, earthquakes, and a shifting of the poles (this turning the world upside down very quickly). These “righteous” scientists felt that Velikovsky went too far when he claimed that the temperature of Venus would be 900 degrees centigrade if his comet theory was true. When one of our space missions finally flew by Venus and measured that exact temperature, many of the righteous had egg on their faces. Finally, some scientists began to take Velikovsky’s ideas seriously. One who took Velikovsky seriously from the start was Albert Einstein. He had Velikovsky’s book open on his desk the day he [Einstein] died.
Fortunately, a group of dedicated mavericks refused to allow Velikovsky’s ideas to die out. David Talbot, editor of the Velikovsky-oriented magazine Pense and head of the Kronia Foundation, provided a forum for those heretics who dared to think that the earth has been through many cataclysms in the past 12,000 years. Talbot also brought 27 “planetary catastrophe” oriented scientists and authors to Portland, Oregon January 3-5, 1997 for what was The Kronia Foundation’s second “Planetary Violence” conference.

The initial Friday evening session began with six speakers and ended close to midnight with the showing of David Talbot’s video Remembering the End of the World.

Saturday began two days of intense lectures beginning at 8:30 a.m., taking a lunch break, a dinner break, a couple of ten-minute breaks, and the rest being radical science backed by surprisingly good evidence. The overall theme that most every speaker could agree upon was the fact that planet Earth has been through some very violent times. Speaker C. J.. Ransom spoke of a dramatic rise in sea levels about 6,000 years ago. Author Rand Fiam-Ath mentioned in his speech that something in our ancient past caused the sea levels to rise up more than 1,200 feet, this in itself creating a catastrophe (or being the result of one).

Fiam-Ath’s book The Night the Sky Fell points out the sudden demise of the continent Atlantis. Following the lead of Greek philosopher Plato and the Egyptian historian Solon (one of Plato’s sources), Fiam-Ath concludes that Atlantis experienced a great catastrophe somewhere between 11,000 and 12,000 years ago. This extremely violent catastrophe happened so quickly that we are still finding perfectly preserved specimens of humans and animals “flash-frozen” in ice.

Other speakers like Victor Clube added their view that comets were the main creators of catastrophe. Even the dust from the comets creates enough instability to create catastrophe. Clube even went as far as to state that events like the French and the American revolutions were impacted by our archetypal response to comets and other planetary catastrophes.

(Carl Gustav Jung claimed that all events in history were a part of a collective unconsciousness which he referred to as the “racial” or the archetypal mind. If Jung is correct, we have all of history within us — on a deeper level we have experienced every event, even though we might not have a personal memory of a planetary crisis or a social upheaval. )

Into this mix came author Zecharia Sitchin who claimed that extraterrestrial beings (referred to in ancient books as the Annunaki) actually pushed the Antarctic ice pack to create what the Sumerian Atra Hasis and the Hebrew Old Testament refer to as the Great Flood. In Sitchin’s first book The Twelfth Planet, Sitchin suggested and effectively supported the idea that the advanced Annunaki created the flood to “thin out the herd” of proliferating humans. While Sitchin was the only speaker to suggest thatextraterrestrials might have willingly done this, no one had a problem with the catastrophic views which Sitchin has now written about in eight books.

Into this catastrophic mix came other speakers like Robert Bass who seemingly allowed his audience to take a break from catastrophe by using computer pictures to point out that planetary orbits are not as predictable as once thought. As Bass showed slide after slide, the audience was shown what might have caused the planets to exceed their orbits and come precariously close enough to Earth to create cataclysms. What started out softly ended up mesmerizing the audience. Seeing computer projections from the past pointed out that a predicable — and even a safe — planetary orbit is wishful thinking.

What provided a firm foundation for all of these catastrophic views was Friday night’s presentation of David Talbot’s film Remembering the End of the World. Talbot began with the thesis that a Golden Age was a reality, as was planetary stability. Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, Mars, and Earth were once in a straight line. During the evening the Sun’s reflection from Saturn would prevent nighttime from becoming dark. However, the conference is ascribed villain — Mars — eventually went out of orbit and came close enough to the Earth to create massive tidal waves, extremely violent earthquakes, severe weather changes, and those pole shifts which happen.

Humanity unfortunately interpreted these events as God’s being angry: they saw — from their perspective — Saturn teetering back and forth, along with Venus and Mars swinging out of their own orbits. For humans it was a time of terror. Millions died, violently and quickly. When Mars and Venus appeared to be going back into their orbits and Saturn appeared to be ending its raging stance, the people left alive figured that an angry God needed to be appeased in the future. This concept of an angry God and the archetypal memories of these great catastrophes impacted humanity in such a manner that we are still significantly affected today.

That concept was covered most effectively by a majority of the speakers on Sunday. Richard Heinberg, author of Memories and Reflections of Paradise, advanced the thesis that humans are in a bad psychological state today because of deep-seated memories of those terrifying times. He claimed that during the Golden Age, the time before catastrophe, men and women lived in harmony with each other and nations did not war with each other. Other speakers following Heinberg claimed that our concept of hell and an underworld did not exist until after these planetary catastrophes. Roger Wescott pointed out that even the animals lived in harmony with one another. It was not until after the catastrophes that animals — and humans — became predatory. A couple of other speakers suggested that domestic violence might be a reaction to the fact that the people on Earth were violently attacked.

What was absent from the conference was any reference to Hale-Bopp or psychic-driven promises of earth changes to come. Those motivated by Tom Van Flandern’s plug for the conference on the Art Bell show might have wanted to know if something was indeed behind the approaching Hale-Bopp comet. Many wanted to hear more about UFOs in the present and astronauts from our ancient past. However, the theme of the conference was the “Planetary Violence” in Earth’s past, and the conference stuck to its intended theme.

Four days after the conference, the JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) announced that an asteroid may be heading directly for Earth. While we do not yet have enough evidence, the JPL is concerned that a possibility of impact is serious enough. Thankfully, the conference went far beyond the academic meanderings of obtuse scientists talking mainly to each other. The “Planetary Violence” conference provided a wealth of information for any interested lay person. Yet in relation to the JPL announcement, one has to wonder if this past-oriented conference may not be a preview of coming attractions.

Introduction

A few tips on basic photography can help improve your photographs immeasurably. Learning to be a good photographer isn’t hard. Good habits, a keen eye and a camera are all you need.

This page offers an introduction to some of the keys of taking better photographs. Obviously, the other sections within the course deal with each topic in far more detail

Light, Camera, Action!

Light is obviously essential for any photograph, but, also obviously the quality of light varies throughout the day. The best times of day to photograph are usually early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Be careful of the midday sun as it is often too harsh and you will end up with washed-out colours and dark, black shadows.

Observe carefully the position of the sun. You will often find that the best results are when the sun is behind you, fully lighting your subject.

Fill the Frame

Get up close and personal with your subjects. Your subject should fill the image. Don’t have vast areas of nothing when, by moving closer or zooming in you could get a much more interesting result.

Keep an eye on what is behind your subject. If it is too ‘busy’ it will detract from the subject.

Hold It

Get the camera as still and steady as possible. Lock your elbows in by your side and watch your breathing. If you have a tripod use it. If not find something to brace yourself against. You will find your photographs come out crisp and sharp. This is especially true if you have a camera with a long (powerful) zoom lens.

Photographing People

My only real rule of portraiture is not to offend. When travelling you are a guest of the local population and as such you should make every effort to be courteous. I find the best way to take a portrait is to make it absolutely clear to the person that you would like to take their photograph, if you speak a common language ask, smile, show that you have a camera and if they hesitate or look in anyway uncomfortable then point the camera away immediately. If they don’t object, stay with them, observe them and then take the photograph. When you have finished be sure to thank them afterwards.

In some places people will expect to be paid for their photograph. If they ask for money and you take the photograph you must pay. As with any transaction, ensure the price is agreed beforehand. I don’t offer money for taking photographs in general, but certainly do pay where expected.

If people don’t expect to be paid and you feel you should give something, try and be a bit more creative and generous, and don’t turn yourself into a tourist and them into beggars. Children calling out ‘one pen’ in some countries is an example of well-meaning visitors turning whole towns of youngsters into beggars. Certainly do give generously, but go to the local school and let the teachers distribute the pens, donate to a charity or do some volunteer work.

Composition

Composition is about balancing the important parts of the image against each other. Key points to remember include:

Look at how other photographers compose their images. What do you like? How did they do that? You don’t need to copy what they do but it is a good exercise in observation.

Landscape Photography

Landscape is one of the easiest forms of photography to do reasonably as you often have time to think through your options of composition, lens, filters and so on. Obviously, to do this very well requires more skill, a good eye and some practice.

Composition is fundamental to taking a good landscape shot. Many people inadvertantly put the horizon in the middle of the photograph. This rarely looks good. Consider instead placing your subject and horizon using the ‘Rule of Thirds’.

Light always play an important role in a landscape photograph and will completely change the mood of the image. By being a good observer of light at certain times of day you can predict light conditions. Remember these will be effected by the weather.

Skyscapes and Sunsets

Sunrise and sunset are some of the most beautiful times to photograph. But the contrast range between the sun, the sky and the horizon provide some special challenges.

The easiest way to get the exposure right for the sky is to aim the camera at the sky right next to the sun, without the sun actually being in the frame. If your camera has an Exposure Lock (sometimes called ‘AE Lock’) then hold this down while you re-compose the photograph and move the sun back into your frame. The horizon will become silhouetted, but you will get good detail in the cloud and colour range through the sky.

Street Photography

Exploring a new place is one of the great things about travelling. By taking a camera you may become an even keener observer, and hopefully will keep you exploring for longer.

Often there will be people in your street scenes, so please be courteous and considerate at all times. See the People Section for more tips.

Photograph What You See

Street photography is exciting. You will rarely know what you are going to photograph and how you are going to shoot it. Usually you will find things by accident, scenes that suddenly grab you, scenarios that make you think.

By having your camera ready you will be able to photograph what you see. I like to keep my camera in my hand with the strap wrapped securely several times around my wrist and avoid the ‘camera around neck’ look.

Choose a good general purpose lens with a short focal-length, like a 28-70mm zoom lens. This gives you some flexibility and will let you quickly adapt your shot to the scene. You will probably discover a lens that you like. Stick with it. My personal favourite is a 24mm as it allows my to get it close but capture a whole scene.

Working with Available Light

Available light is in many ways the most convenient way to photograph. It requires the least equipment, but it also requires the keenest observational skills and, as a result is one of the most rewarding. It gives you an excuse to go and appreciate the everyday subtleties of light in your surroundings. The other great thing about working with available light is it is the least intrusive. You don’t have flashes going off, banks of lights or reflecting boards.

I hope if you are reading this section you instinctively know where the sun is, and ensure that the subject has the best possible light to suit you desired result. This doesn’t mean you aren’t photographing during the middle of the day, but you are very aware of the bright light, strong shadows and washed-out colours.

Remember, you can increase contrast and colour saturation by using a polarizing filter in some situations. Note that a polarizer is not a good all purpose filter and does not in any way replace a UV or Skylight filter on your SLR.

I strongly recommend looking at other photographer’s work and try and figure out where the sun is, have they used any other lights or reflectors? If there is a person you may be able to see the reflection in their eyes of a flash.

Understanding Exposure & the Zone System

Knowing how your camera works is the key to getting good exposures. No matter how sophisticated your camera is, the exposure system works on the same principle, and that is to take a reading of the light and then average it. This is fine if the scene being exposed has a lot of average tones reflecting an average amount of light. Problems occur when you want to take a picture like the one at the top of this page. There are very few average tones in the image.

So what happens when you rely on the camera’s exposure meter? Using the example below let’s see what happens if we take the photograph without any compensation.

The camera has tried to average the tones in the photograph and the result is a badly UNDER-EXPOSED photograph.

So how do you get the right exposure? Let’s say that you are taking the picture above and your camera says that the exposure should be 1/250th of a second at F11. If you took the picture at that setting your whites would turn out grey.

To get the whites to be white you need OVER-EXPOSE by around 2 stops. Many cameras have either a manual exposure setting or an exposure compensation feature. The common symbol for this is +/- . Using the camera’s meter reading of 1/250 @ F11 as an example you need to OVER-EXPOSE so that your new exposure setting is 1/250th @ F5.6 OR 1/60th @ F11 (you can change either the aperture or shutter speed, it doesn’t matter from an exposure point of view). So by opening the camera up 2 stops (letting more light in) you get white whites and bright, true colours. Your photograph would then hopefully turn out like the one below.

So what is a ’stop’?

A stop is simply a term to denote the halving or doubling of the exposure. For example, in the example above I said that you need to open up by 2 stops. Opening up one stop would mean that the exposure had doubled, your whites would now be twice as bright. Opening up two stops is a four-fold increase in the amount of light – a doubling of twice the original amount of light. You might think that twice as much light sounds like a lot. It isn’t.

Let us use an example of an exposure of F8 @ 1/125th and we want to open up a stop. We can use either the lens aperture or the shutter to control the amount of light, so let us open the shutter by an additional stop, so the shutter speed is now 1/60th while the F-stop remains the same. If we then open up a further stop we are at 1/30th – four times as much light as the original setting of 1/125th. Think it through a little, it might take a minute but it is really simple.

During the next 10 years, the human race is destined to finally discover the facts about its true origins and destiny. We have left the question of evil in the hands of theologians and scientists. for too long. This was surely a mistake for, as the casualty statistics clearly testify, the institutions of religion and science have been the worst purveyors of evil that this planet has ever had to endure. After centuries of prevarication and criminality, we can no longer afford to look to these edifices to answer the all-important conundrum of evil.

The object of my book Atlantis, Alien Visitation and Genetic Manipulation, was to offer forth a theory concerning the origins of evil. I had long desired to discover how humankind’s penchant to sadism, cruelty, and injustice came into being. In the course of the book I advanced the rather controversial theory which invilves the intervention of alien beings from distamt galaxies who, upon their arrival to our planet, established their principle headquarters, which we know as Atlantis, and engaged in several genetic hybridization experiments. As a result of their pernicious transgenic experiments, “homo sapiens” inherited a divided biology and psyche. This transgression of biological sovereignity by the alien visitors caused man to be perpetually at war with himself. Man’s schizophrenic nature has given rise to schizophrenic societies infested with injustice, crime, delinquency, and perversity. This is psychology “101″ and it remains a self-evident fact regardless of whether the deep symbiotic connections between mind and world are acknowledged and accepted or whether they are not. Sadly, it may take another age before human beings of today’s spiritually impoverished world understand the subtle rapport between microcosm and macrocosm. Nevertheless, let it be understood clearly and distinctly that freedom and truth will not visit the world the hearts and minds of men remain toxic, immoral, and enslaved. As I assert in my other works, there can be no hope of positive change in our world until the true origins of the high malfeasance are understood and until men take proactive responsibility for their mutilated psychic condition.The problem which beset us today, both existentially and socially, have a date of birth. As I show in my work on Atlantis, we were not always beset by such chronic social problems. Historically speaking, they are quite recent phenomena. They date to about 13,000 years ago and they do not have to persist. In fact, it is this author’s belief that we are now in the final phase of the old paradigm. The time is coming when both the protagonists and the antagonists in the human drama will have to face not only the legacy of the past, but also the forces which enter their loves to restore balance.

Although I covered some of the key events pertaining to the alien visitation and the subsequent infecion of our perfumed planet by their presence, and though I did bring things up to the present “Silicon Age” I stressed thgat it was not possible to cover in depth all the various machinations ot the visitors throughout history. Space did not permit me to delineate the fascinating story of how the surviving Atlanteans and Lemurians (both descendants of the “Fallen Angels” toiled to establish new civilizations upon the landmasses that still existed after the horrific cataclysms that decimated their previous homes. It is time now to move forward and address the new world which arose in the aftermath of the Age of Catastrophe.

Irish Origins of Civilizations

Philip Martin has been a Marine for 2 years. He is in the infantry (a “grunt”), and spent 7 months in the al-Anbar province of Iraq. He went on more than 180 combat patrols in and outside of the city of Fallujah, where he was hit with 2 IEDs (luckily never injured) and was involved in a number of firefights. He is currently stationed in Twentynine Palms, CA, and due to return to Iraq for a second deployment in April 2007. He is 21-years-old.

Here is what he is saying:
I’m sick and tired of this patriotic, nationalistic and fascist crap. I stood through a memorial service today for a young Marine that was killed in Iraq back in April. During this memorial a number of people spoke about the guy and about his sacrifice for the country. How do you justify ’sacrificing’ your life for a war which is not only illegal, but is being prosecuted to the extent where the only thing keeping us there is one man’s power, and his ego. A recent Marine Corps intelligence report that was leaked said that the war in the al-Anbar province is unwinnable. It said that there was nothing we could do to win the hearts and minds, or the military operations in that area. So I wonder, why are we still there? Democracy is not forced upon people at gunpoint. It’s the result of forward thinking individuals who take the initiative and risks to give their fellow countrymen a better way of life.

When I joined I took an oath. In that oath I swore to protect the Constitution of the United States. I didn’t swear to build democracies in countries on the other side of the world under the guise of “national security.” I didn’t join the military to be part of an Orwellian (“1984″) war machine that is in an obligatory war against whoever the state deems the enemy to be so that the populace can be controlled and riled up in a pro-nationalistic frenzy to support any new and oppressive law that will be the key to destroying the enemy. Example given – the Patriot Act. So aptly named, and totally against all that the constitution stands for. President Bush used the reactionary nature of our society to bring our country together and to infuse into the national psyche a need to give up their little-used rights in the hope to make our nation a little safer. The same scare tactics he used to win elections. He drones on and on about how America and the world would be a less safe place if we weren’t killing Iraqis, and that we’d have to fight the terrorists at home if we weren’t abroad. In our modern day emotive society this strategy (or strategery?) works, or had worked, up until last month’s elections.

My point in this; to show that America was never nationalistic. If anything they were Statalistic (giving their allegiance to the state of their residence). This is shown in the fact that the founders created states with fully capable and independent governments and not provinces that were just a division of the federal government. These men believed that America was a place where imperialistic values would be non-existent. Where the people trying to make their lives better by working hard, thinking, inventing and using the free market would tie up so much of normal life that imperialistic colonization and the fighting of wars thousands of miles away for interests that are not our own would be avoided. They believed this expansion of power could be left to the European nations, the England, France and Spain of their time. However this recent, and current influx of nationalistic feeling has created an environment where giving up your rights, going to a foreign country to fight a people who did not ask for us to be there, nor did their leader do anything to warrant us being there, and dying would be considered honorable and heroic. I don’t believe it anymore. I don’t believe it’s right for any American to go along with it anymore. Yes I know that we in the military are bound by the UCMJ and somehow don’t fall under the Constitution (the very thing we’re suppose to be defending) but sooner or later there is a decision that every American soldier, marine, airmen and seamen makes to allow themselves to be sent to a war that is against every fiber this country was founded on. I know that when April rolls around I will be thinking long and hard on that decision. Even though we in the military are just doing as we’re told we still have the moral and ethical obligation to choose to do as we’re told, or to say, “No, that isn’t right.” I believe that if more troopers like me and the professional military, the officers and commanders, start standing up and saying that they won’t let themselves or their troops go to this illegal war people will start standing up and realizing what the heck is going on over there.

The sad fact of the matter is that we are not fighting terrorists in Iraq. We are fighting the Iraqi people who feel like a conquered and occupied people. Personally I have a hard time believing that if I was an Iraqi that I wouldn’t be doing everything in my power to kill and maim as many Americans as possible. I know that the vast majority of Americans would not be happy with the Canadian government, or any other foreign government, liberating us from the clutches of George W. Bush, even though a large number of us would like that, and forcing us to accept their system of government. Would not millions of Americans rise up and fight back? Would you not rise up to protect and defend your house and your neighborhood if someone invaded your country? But we send thousands of troops to a foreign country to do just that. How is it moral to fight a people who are just trying to defend their homes and families? I think next time I go to Iraq perhaps I should wear a bright red coat and carry a Brown Bess instead of my digitalized utilities and M16.

Notice I never once used the word homeland in any of this. I have a secondary point I want to bring up now. Never once was the term homeland ever used to describe the country of America until Mr. Bush began the department of homeland security after the 9/11 attacks. Taking a 20th century history class will teach us that the most notable countries in the last century that referred to their country in this way were Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia. Hitler used the term fatherland to drum up support, nationalistic support, for his growing war machine. He used the nationalism he created in the minds of the Germans to justify the sacrifice of their livelihood to build the war machine to get back their power from the oppressive restrictions the English and French had put on them at Versailles. This is the same feeling that has been virulently infecting the American psyche in the last hundred years. This is the same feeling that consoles a mother after her son is killed in an attempt to prosecute an aggressor’s war 10,000 miles away. It’s also known as Patriotism these days, but I say, “No more.” No more nationalistic inanity, no more passing it off as patriotism. Patriotism is learning, and educating oneself to understand what their country really stands for.

I heard a lot during the memorial service about how the dead Marine did so much good for others and how his helping others was like a little microcosm of America helping because we have the power to do so. Well if we have the power to help people why aren’t we helping in Darfur where hundreds of thousands of people have died in the last 10 years. Saddam was convicted and sentenced to death for killing 143 Shiites who conspired to assassinate him. (I know all you “patriotic” Americans would be calling for the heads of anyone who conspired to assassinate supreme leader Bush). And yet we spend upwards of 1 trillion dollars and nearing 3,000 lives to help these Iraqis when they don’t even want us there. Not to mention we don’t have the legal justification to be there. I guess we should wait around for the omnipotent W Bush to decide who we should use our superpowerdom to help next. It’s about time to throw him and the rest of the fascists out. Moreover it’s about time to start educating Americans about their past and history, and letting them know that imperialistic leaders are not what the founders of this great country wanted.
